President's Letter
May, 2025
One good thing about leaving home for an extended period of time is that you cannot
help but notice a newfound appreciation for what you have left behind. I always
feel a burst of exhilaration when the wheels of our plane touch down in the United
States of America, and I find an even greater appreciation upon arriving home in Grosse
Pointe. As beautiful as the world can be, there are few places I have visited that can
compare with our wonderful community. And, while I was not exactly pining away in
paradise while gone, I have missed my friends and family and my regular meetings of
the Grosse Pointe Men's Club.
A few days after we got back home, we had a full house of guests as family members
assembled for my niece's wedding reception here in town at the Tompkins Center. The
timing left us exhausted, with a severe case of "after the parties over blues,” but equally
fortified by the ever-growing expansion of our family circle.
My very busy schedule has prevented me from attending the Club's excellent selection
of special events, organized by the tireless efforts of Ed Benz. Despite the press
of engagements, and despite spring cleaning and an absurdly long list of projects that
clamor for my attention, I am resolved to take advantage of these club outings in the
future and recommend that everyone do so as well. Spring can be so fleeting. If you
don't stop to enjoy it, the season will slip by without notice. As I age, I am increasingly
unwilling to be distracted by the rush of everyday life. Let us resolve to stop and smell
the roses while they are in bloom!
Ed Benz has a Special Event
coming up: a visit to the Belle Isle Conservancy on
June 18th at 11:00 AM
I hope to see you at the meeting on May 13th to hear from Charlie Langton.
